IRS to Hire 4,500 New Revenue Agents
In the 2010 budget proposed by President Barack Obama, there is an increase of $400 million dollars for the IRS. The IRS plans to increase its enforcement budget to $5.5 billion, out of the total $12.12 billion IRS budget.

 

Bank Stocks Up on Stress Test

Allstate Insurance Company's shares lost 13% in Friday trading after the company announced a first-quarter loss of $274 million. Despite the significance of this loss, Allstate continues to maintain strong capital reserves that have helped the insurance giant weather the recession thus far.

 

Unemployment Rate at 26-Year High
In April, job losses continued to be large and widespread across nearly all major private-sector industries, according to a report released by the Department of Labor.

 

Mortgage Rates Rise on Positive Economic News
Mortgage rates rose this week on reports suggesting that the economy is recovering. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) averaged 4.84%, up from last week when it averaged 4.78%.
