It's
Tax Time...
While there's nothing really funny
about tax time, many in history have found some humor in it.
Check out the quotes below for a good laugh.
Also, for some interesting
developments on the horizon, read up on the Citizens' Choice
Act of 2010. It was just
introduced in February, but it's an interesting concept that could
change the way people donate to charity and do their taxes.

Savvy Senior
Beware
of Potential 2010 Census Scams
Dear
Savvy Living,
Can you offer some tips on how seniors can guard
against 2010 census scams? I've heard that there are a lot of
potential scams going on and I want to protect myself.

Strong
Retail Sales Boost Market
Stocks
rose this week on positive retail sales data. Analysts took the
better-than-anticipated sales numbers as a sign that consumers are
spending again. One of the strong performers, The Gap, reported March
net sales up 12% from last year at $1.45 billion.
Treasury
Yields Continue to Climb on Data and Auctions
Treasury
yields continued to climb this week, although yields dropped back
slightly in response to a release of mixed market data. Retailers
reported sales for the month of March beating analysts' expectations.
Treasury
Yields Push Mortgage Rates to a High
Freddie
Mac reported Treasury yields pushing 30-year mortgage rates to the
highest level in eight months this week. The 30-year fixed-rate
mortgage (FRM) averaged 5.21%, up from last week when it averaged
5.08%.

Dear Donors,
Benjamin
Franklin once said, "In this world nothing is certain but death
and taxes."
Well, that glass
is certainly half empty, isn't it? But, as tax day looms,
perhaps there is another thing that is certain...we could all use a
good laugh before writing that check to Uncle Sam.
"If Patrick Henry
thought that taxation without representation was bad, he should see
how bad it is with representation." -- Farmer's Almanac
"Death and taxes may be
certain, but we don't have to die every year." -- Unknown
"If you die in an
elevator, be sure to push the UP button." -- Sam Levensen
"Optimist: Someone who
sets aside two hours to do his income tax return." -- Unknown
"Income tax returns are
the most imaginative fiction being written today." -- Herman
Wouk
"The way taxes are, you
might as well marry for love." -- Joe E. Lewis
"It used to be that
death and taxes alone were inevitable. Now there's shipping and
handling." -- Bert Murray
"The income tax has made
more liars out of the American people than golf has." -- Will
Rogers
"The taxpayer -- that's
someone who works for the federal government but doesn't have to take
the civil service examination." -- Ronald Reagan
Keep the
Community Foundation in mind as 2010 moves forward...we have over 250
funds to help you increase your charitable donations and perhaps
lower your tax bill this time next year.
