chamber annual meetingcleanUP DOWNtown!

The entire staff of the Community Foundation brought their gardening tools from home and wore jeans and sweatshirts to clean up our little piece of downtown Marion at 505 West Third Street last Friday.  We painted, planted, and cleaned up a ton of landscaping.  In the near future you'll see our parking lot resurfaced and new parking lines painted both at the Foundation and at the State Farm office next door.  It was a fun afternoon of teamwork that helped make our part of Marion look a little better and brighter to all who might pass by or visit.  But, you have a chance to help Clean Up Downtown, too.  It takes everyone to get the job done.  So, don't hesitate, sign up today!

Senate Budget Plan Includes Estate Tax

On April 22, 2010, the Senate Budget Committee passed the Democratic budget plan for fiscal year 2011. Sen. Budget Chair Kent Conrad (D-ND) was very pleased with the passage. He noted that the five year plan should bring the deficit down to 3% of the gross domestic product by 2015.

Dear Donors,

I can't believe another year has gone by!  This time last year we were getting ready to celebrate the Community Foundation's 25th Anniversary!

Just next week, on May 4th, we'll be embarking on year 26 as we enjoy an evening at Roseburg Event Center to announce the highlights of this past year at our Annual Meeting.

Some might wonder why it's so important to have an Annual Meeting to celebrate the past year's accomplishments.  I've thought a lot about that question this past several weeks as our team has worked so hard pulling all of the fact and figures together to produce our Annual Report and also to plan a spectacular Annual Meeting.

ReinventingEducation.org discusses how celebrating accomplishments allows organizations to:

  • Affirm identity

, giving essential recognition affirming a sense of self and group;

·  Give meaning to their work, bracketing significant experience and naming it as an accomplishment to bring out meaning that might be lost or under-appreciated in the flow of events;

·  Benchmark quality, telling the entire organization that "this" is what we mean by "good" or "excellent," "this" is how we judge quality in this organization; and

·  Assign value to their accomplishments, saying that these accomplishments are worthy, we value them, they are to be emulated.

As a Community Foundation we hope to do all of these things and recognize the myriad of accomplishments by our donors, board and staff.  We'd love to have you there to celebrate with us.  It's not too late.  Today is the very last day to RSVP.   Won't you join us?

Peace and Blesssings,
