Are You Contemplating a Career Change?

Earlier this month, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation announced the recipients of its first ever Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowships.  The 59 new Fellows begin work this summer on master's degrees to prepare for math and science teaching positions in the Indiana's high-need urban and rural schools.  AND, they are currently seeking candidates for the next class of fellows.  The award provides Fellows in science, technology, engineering, and math fields with a $30,000 stipend during a master's degree program at one of four Indiana universities.  In exchange, Fellows will commit to teach math or science for three years in a high-need indiana secondary school.  Upon completing the master's degree and teaching certification, Fellows will be placed in teaching jobs in participating districts, where they will receive continued support and mentoring.  More details about the program are available at www.woodrow.org/indiana.  Check it out!

Good and Bad Wills

Over 40 wills were submitted to the probate court with a multitude of potential heirs each claiming to be the true recipient of a wealthy business owner who passed away in 1976. With a $2.5 billion estate at stake, there was intense interest in the decision of the court.

For you and others like you who need to find health insurance on your own - because of early retirement or a layoff - various options are available, depending on your circumstances. Here's what you should know.

On July 14, 2009 Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) released the updated Democratic healthcare plan. It included a government-sponsored health plan option, requires nearly everyone to have coverage and levies new taxes on higher-income citizens.

Shares of Intel rose this week on stronger-than-anticipated sales results for the company's second quarter. While sales were higher, the company reported an overall loss due to the cost impact of an antitrust fine imposed by the European Union.

Treasurys fell this week after the release of minutes from the latest meeting of the Federal Reserve (Fed) which suggested that the U.S. may be nearing the end of the recession. The Federal Reserve also announced plans to purchase more Treasurys by the end of the year.

Freddie Mac reported a decline in long-term mortgage rates for the third straight week. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) averaged 5.14%, down from last week when it averaged 5.20%. Last year at this time, the 30-year FRM averaged 6.26%.
