Savvy Senior
Cell
Phone Savings for Seniors
Dear Savvy Senior,
A few months ago you wrote
a column on simple cell phones for seniors. Can you now write one on
cheaper cell phones for seniors on a budget? My wife and I have had a
cell phone for nearly two years that we rarely use but like having it
for emergency purposes. When our current cell phone contract runs
out, we want to find a cheaper option than the $40 per month we're
spending now. What can you tell us?
Finances
Southwest
to Offer More Services for Fees
Southwest embarked on an
advertising campaign which criticizes its competitors for imposing
fees on basic services. Yet the fees have earned other carriers
millions over the past several years, a fact Southwest found
impossible to ignore.
Treasury
Yields Drop
The yields on 10-year
Treasury notes declined 17 basis points to 3.50%. It's the biggest
one-day decline since a massive plunge after the Fed announced it
would start buying Treasurys. Two-year notes also fell but by 4 basis
points to 0.92%.
Bond
Yields Push Rates Higher
Long-term mortgage rates
crept slightly higher this week according to Freddie Mac's weekly
survey. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) averaged 4.91%, up from
last week when it averaged 4.82%.
