Reports Strong Fourth-Quarter
Ann Taylor Corporation reported
strong fourth-quarter results this week. The retailer's sales totaled
$469.1 million for the quarter, compared with sales of $483.4 million
for the same quarter last year.

Yields Rise on January Retail Figures
Short-term Treasury yields rose
to their highest level since January this week following a reported
increase in retail sales. The better-than-anticipated sales data made
Treasurys less appealing, pushing prices lower.
Mortgage Rates
Drop Slightly
Freddie Mac reported mortgage
rates dropping slightly this week. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage
(FRM) averaged 4.95%, down from last week when it averaged 4.97%.
Last year at this time, the 30-year FRM averaged 5.03%.
