Sherrie   ...  What does leveraging your money really mean?

Well, let me show you mathematically!

$   100 = $   125

$4,000 = $5,000

 How can that be?

Well, right now the Community Foundation has a matching program for donations between $100 and $4000 made to endowment funds.  We will match 25% of your donation until our matching dollars ($25,000) are all gone or December 31, 2010--whichever comes first.

What better way to ensure that your favorite charitable cause gets as much financial benefit as possible.  (See details below.)

Regards,

Dawn

Update from former Lilly Scholar Justin Bricker

Many of you had the chance to see Justin Bricker speak about how the Lilly Scholarship transformed his life at our recent Annual Meeting.  Well, you may also remember that Justin left the meeting immediately after his talk due to his wife being on bedrest and having her labor induced that next day at 6:00 a.m.

Well, I'm happy to tell you that Hadleigh D'Lynn Bricker was born on May 6 at 6 pm by emergency C-section.  She weighed 5 lbs. 6 ounces and was 18.5 inches long.  Mom and baby are both doing well.

Wow, will his life be transformed now or what?

We are thrilled for Justin and welcome little Hadleigh to the world!

Community Foundation Provides Leverage to Donors

The Community Foundation of Grant County is pleased to announce a Matching

Grant Program.

Donations totaling between $100 and $ 4,000 made to new or existing endowments will be matched at a 1:4 ratio, per donor, as a way to leverage your charitable dollars.

(See table below for minimums and maximums.)

The match will apply to donations made between  May 4, 2010 and December 31, 2010 or until the $25,000 matching cap is committed, whichever comes first.

Plus, a $4,000 donation with our $1000 match would  allow you or your family to start your own named endowment at the Foundation.  Call us at 765.662.0065 for more information.  Increase your charitable deductions, improve the quality of life in Grant County, and make your money work for you all at the same time! That's a good investment!

What can you tell me about volunteer vacations? It sounds like a fun and interesting way to travel but at age 59 I have some concerns.

Should Banks Pay a TARP Tax?

During the financial crisis in October of 2008, Congress passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. Part of that Act created the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) with a $700 billion fund for loans to banks.

Kraft Foods Reports Strong Income Growth

Kraft Foods Inc. reported strong first-quarter results this week. The company said that the results were driven by solid operations and momentum across all of its sales regions.

Treasury yields fell to a low for the year this week following continued turmoil in the European economy related to the debt woes of Greece, Spain and Portugal. The European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet's statement that the bank has not discussed the purchase of government bonds fueled worries that there is no solution for the debt-laden countries.

This week, Freddie Mac reported mortgage rates at the lowest level in a six-week period. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage (FRM) averaged 5.00%, down from last week when it averaged 5.06%.

Sherrie ,

Well, it's Monday and I'm back at work after taking a couple of days off.  I cannot tell you how much I love my job, but it's also nice to get away for a bit and get a new perspective on things.

I did a little bit of gardening and was able to cut some of my first peonies of the year.  They smell delicious.  I'm not a master gardener by any means!  But, I sure do like getting my hands a little dirty, picking out my favorite things to plant, and then being passionate enough to care for it until, viola, I get a beautiful flower.

Philanthropy is much the same way.  Sometimes you have to get your hands dirty.  And, it is important to pick the charity that's your favorite.  But, the hard part, before the flower, is the patience part.  That's where we have to maintain our passion for what we're doing long enough to make a real impact.  And, that's where your donations come in and help.  Sometimes it takes your commitment of time, talent, and treasure over a period of time.  But, in the end, it's beautiful like a flower...and it's so worth it.

Thanks, Peace and Blesssings,
