The Community Foundation of Grant County, Indiana, Inc. is incorporated.

Chuck Osterholt is named the foundation's first Executive Director.

Gannett Foundation makes the first $40,000 gift.

1985

A Criteria is developed for the distribution of funds.

The Community Foundation receives 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.

The Community Foundation holds its first Annual Meeting.

1986

The First “Skins Game” is held to raise funds for the Community Foundation.

The second major gift of $30,000 dollars is received from the Gannett Foundation bringing total gifts to $132,000 since inception of the Community Foundation.

1988

A job description and contract are developed for the position of Executive Director.

Lois Ball is hired as second Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Grant County, Indiana, Inc.

The Community Foundation's first strategic plan is assembled.

Total Community Foundation assets exceed $100,000.

1989

The Community Foundation helps fund and participates in the COMPASS community needs assessment.

The Community Foundation starts the "Give Five” program to encourage people to give five hours a week and five percent of income to philanthropy.

1990

The number of Community Foundation Funds grows to twenty-two.

Community Foundation assets reach nearly $150,000.

1991

Elizabeth Wright is hired as Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Grant County, Indiana, Inc.

GIFT (Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow) grant monies are received from Lilly Endowment Inc.

A goal is established for the Community Foundation to reach $5 million in endowed funds by end of 1996.

Lilly Endowment Inc. grants the Community Foundation $107,620 for operations and $1.7 million for endowment growth.

1992

The Community Foundation grows to 27 endowed funds and 15 non-permanent funds.

Community Foundation assets grow to more than $1.3 million with $500,000 major gift from L. Hewitt and Amelia Carpenter

1993

The Community Foundation grows to 62 total funds.

More than one million dollars in endowed gifts generates over $500,000 in Lilly matching dollars.

1993

Community Foundation assets total nearly $2.5 million.

A special project grant of $100,000 from Lilly Endowment Inc., combined with $200,000 raised locally, funds the Waterfront Parkway Project and the Business Education Partnership Program expansion.

1995
The Community Foundation grows to over 90 funds.

The Lilly Endowment Inc. asset building challenge is completed six months early with outstanding community support and a million dollar gift received from Robert and Janis Board bringing total assets to nearly $5.5 million.  

1997

The first Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships are offered for 1998 high school graduates.

The Community Foundation awards a $250,000 special project grants.

The Community Foundation completes the Lilly GIFT Phase Two Challenge. $500,000 is raised locally to generate $500,000 for unrestricted endowment.

The Community Foundation completes the Lilly GIFT Phase Three in six weeks by raising more than $1 million in new gifts to generate another $1 million in match from Lilly Endowment Inc.

1998
The Community Foundation develops a special affiliation with the United Way of Grant County.

The first Youth Grant Program is established to teach youth about philanthropy.

A new Community Foundation Mission Statement is developed. The new mission is "To enhance an improved quality of life in Grant County."  

Community Foundation assets exceed $10 million with 144 funds administered.
1999

Community Foundation assets total more than $16 million with 153 funds.

The Community Foundation participates in the Lilly Endowment Inc. GIFT Phase Four Program.

An Office Building is acquired, renovated, decorated and equipped by the Community Foundation with Lilly matching monies.
